Talking with the Old Folks
Searching for ancestors
It is a lot of fun researching your ancestors for so many reasons.
Getting to know senior relatives who tell some pretty interesting stories, and learning that their life struggles are important lessons for future generations.
Those who came before us experienced daunting upheavals and exciting adventures.
The early 1600s through the 1800s were an era of frequent debate, upheaval, and necessary lifestyle changes. The ancestors were afflicted with religious persecution and domineering monarchs. By the 1700s, the largest populations of Scots, Irish, and Germans had left their homes and crossed the treacherous seas to America. The struggle continued as they traveled across the Allegheny Mountains in search of a new home. It was a settlement that faced opposition from marauding Indians and involved a major war with Great Britain.
Probing into old records and discovering actual events, we realize the struggle.
More importantly, we are inheritors of our forefathers’ fierce determination and bravery. Is this a good enough reason to learn more about the old folks?
